Title: Aspect
Post by: magdeline on August 16, 2013, 09:19:12 AM
Is Aspect used by the SLAMM model? If so, how?

Hi,
if with Aspect you refer to the horizontal direction to which a mountain slope faces, then SLAMM does not use it.

The input parameter slope is usually derived from the DEM data by looking at the elevations around but there is no direction associated with it. It is used to estimate the minimum and maximum elevations of a particular cell.

Hope it helps,
Marco

Thanks Marco. I was also wondering how saturation is calculated in SLAMM?
Thanks again!

Please see the section on saturation (page 25) in this document

and feel free to ask if questions remain.

As a simplification, "direction offshore" is used to calculate distance to water in these calculations.
